You can wave down a Comet Cab at any safe point along its route that doesn’t obstruct traffic —such as a crosswalk or stop sign— and be dropped off at any safe point on its circuit. Because of this, Comet Cabs don’t keep a regular schedule like the Comet Cruiser (DART [Dallas Area Rapid Transit] Route 883). Each route has its own hours of operation, which can change at different times of the year, sometimes running shorter during Summer Semester and when classes aren’t in session.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are Comet Cabs?
Comet Cabs are our inner-campus shuttle service. They are free to ride and offer a quick trip to different areas of campus.
How can I catch a Comet Cab?
You can wave down a Comet Cab at any safe point along its path that doesn’t obstruct traffic, like at a crosswalk or stop sign, and be dropped off at any safe point on its route. The primary boarding locations are located at the start and end of each route. Be sure to always wait until the Comet Cabs are at a complete stop before boarding or exiting the vehicle, and alert your driver before exiting the vehicle.
Where do Comet Cabs go?
Comet Cabs travel all over campus, but they have to stay on their designated route and can’t go off course. Comet Cabs cannot travel on public streets or pedestrian areas, and are limited to campus roadways and parking lots only. There are currently six Comet Cab routes. Review our route map (PDF [Portable Document Format File] ) for more information.
When do the Comet Cabs run?
Comet Cabs have a daily operating schedule, but do not follow a set schedule for each stop. Each route (PDF [Portable Document Format File] ) has its own hours of operation, which can change at different times of the year, sometimes running less during the summer semesters, or when classes aren’t in session. Be sure to check our website and follow our Twitter page for schedule changes.

Are all golf carts “Comet Cabs”?
No, several departments on campus utilize golf carts for other purposes. Comet Cabs can be identified by their route sign designation in the front windshield, and by the drivers wearing “PARKING & TRANSPORTATION” safety vests.
What if I need service to a location not along one of the current routes?
Accessible Cart Service is available for students that have accessibility accommodations with the Office of Student AccessAbility. Service is also available for faculty and staff if their have accommodations with the Office of Human Resources, or hold a state-issued accessible parking placard or license plate. Services must be scheduled in advance to guarantee service. While custom routes can be designed for those needing accessible service, Comet Cabs are unable to travel on public streets or pedestrian areas, and are limited to campus roadways and parking lots only.
Request Accessible Cart Service
For those hosting special events on campus, Comet Cabs are available for rental. Please review our Special Events page for more information.
How many passengers can be seated on the Comet Cabs?
The majority of our Comet Cabs hold five passengers. We also have a limited number of larger Comet Cabs that hold up to twelve passengers, which are typically reserved for special events, or high ridership routes.
Why don’t I always see a Comet Cab in my area?
During certain times such as a shift change, or when a Comet Cab needs gas or other maintenance, we may be out of service for short periods of time. Additionally, the Comet Cabs cannot operate in inclement weather, or when the University is closed. Please check our GPS Service to see where Comet Cabs are currently on route, and follow our Twitter page for updates.
Can I take a Comet Cab every day, or are there limits to the service?
You may ride a Comet Cab whenever a seat is available on the cart. Note that during peak operating hours, seating can be limited so do not rely on the Comet Cabs to be on time to class! They are offered as a convenience to the campus community and are not a formal transportation system.
Be sure to verify that the cart you want to board is the correct route (PDF [Portable Document Format File] ) for where you would like to go, that the driver is on duty, and that the cart is not reserved for a special event or those with accessibility accommodations (indicated by signage in the windshield).
We ask that riders do not continuously ride the Comet Cabs with no destination. Be sure to board and exit the vehicle at your desired locations so we can continue to serve others on the campus.
